Bariatric Surgery Update

Hello folks: just wanted to update you with how the weight loss is going since my July 16, 2008 laparoscopic Roux-en-Y gastric bypass surgery. The images above are January 2008 an August 19, 2008 34 days post surgery. In the past 34 days I have lost just under 40 pounds and a whole lot more since the January photo was taken.

I would like to report that I continue to feel great, working 12 to 16 hour days (sounds like a great retirement doesn’t it.) I am not getting as much exercise as I need to so need to continue pushing myself harder at that. As far as food I tolerate most everything in very small portions though I do stay away from sugar and other fattening foods. Perhaps I am lucky but I do not seem to miss the food. Today I went for lunch and ordered a boneless chicken breast lunch and salad. The plate came with two breasts, ate half of one and a few bites of salad and finished the other half about an hour later. For me it has been necessary to break my meals up into smaller portions to get enough protein. While Bariatric Advantage and several other companies have great protein replacement meals which I use, solid food is my first choice.

Today I had the opportunity to participate in a Webex conference sponsored by Bariatric Advantage. The session leader was Dr. John Dixon who discussed the Mechanisms of Bariatric Surgery. I will share more of that in a couple of days.

Just wanted to say thanks for those of you that have been following along with the Terminal Obesity blog and look forward to adding a lot of new and additional information in the near future.
