Most of you are familiar with that classic film “National Lampoon’s Animal House” which has to be one of the most beloved comedies of all time. The 1978 film was shot throughout Lane County, but the sign on the building seems to make the Lake Club one of the most recognizable locations. I moved to this area in 1990 and since that time the diner has gone through a number of owners but still looks pretty much the same.

Today I went to the Lake Club for lunch. The last time I was there was about a week prior to my gastric bypass surgery. Everything looked the same including the booths that had been there since the last owners took over. As I slipped into my favorite booth I noticed that it appeared to be growing. Previously just sitting there was a tight fit and today there was a good 4 inches between my belly and the edge of the booth. Confused I asked if they had separated the booths giving them more distance? Immediately I heard a reply from another patron, “Terry, could it be you that have given yourself more room?”

Now Monday’s are a great day at this café for on weekends they serve prime rib and if they have left over they will serve it on Mondays as prime rib and eggs or a prime rib sandwich. I ordered the sandwich with a broccoli salad one of my favorites. I was unsure just how I might handle the food and I must report that it went down just fine and stayed down. After eating what I comfortably could the rest was packed in a to-go carton. What was left should last me about two more meals but I can just about guarantee that when my son gets in from his day on the road he will discover it. And that is okay for as good as it tasted too much prime rib sandwich is probably not my best choice yet.

Not having to squeeze into a restaurant booth is just one more benefit that we get to enjoy as we take off a few extra pounds.

This morning I got on the scales and they were down 5 pounds. It is either amazing what a day of yard work will do for you or the scales took a nose dive. As far as yardwok I even hate to call it that. when I step out my back door it is as if I have stepped into a secluded wilderness area. Beautiful Lost Creek runs directly below my deck. This time of year things are absolutely beautiful due to the Oregon rain and the sunshine we have recently experienced. To be fair, I have touched up the plants a bit in the foreground as the sun washed out quite a bit of this area in my photograph. That said I find the area even more beautiful than the picture. Yes, I am blessed in many ways.

Tomorrow morning I have my pre-op meeting with the surgeon and others that will be performing my gastric bypass surgery. Man I am sure glad that it will be laparoscopic gastric bypass surgery for I don’t want the deer and trout to see a big scar when I get up the nerve to take off my shirt. Never know, it might even be a woman and I’m a pretty shy guy.

I am really getting kind of excited and looking forward to the surgery. I would love to have it filmed so that I could look at it later on and share the video with all of you. I will ask the surgical team about it tomorrow and if they agree I will see what can be done.

I look forward to hearing from many of you. If you have had weight loss surgery, thinking about it or just want to talk please make a post.

We are at Depot Bay on the Oregon coast. The area is beautiful; we are relaxing and having a great time. The Obesity Demon is hard to fight, in fact, instead of leaving it behind it tagged along and brought a lot of its friends. What do you do when you sit around watching the television? You eat! Why do we come to the coast to relax and eat, when we can do that at home?

We have done a couple of other things. We went to the show twice and that was okay. What do you do when you go to the show? You eat!

We have looked around at some tourist shops including a candy store where we went out of our way to overdose on chocolate and saltwater taffy. Actually we bought 1 piece of toffee and about 25 pieces of taffy.

We went to the supermarket to purchase our food for the week and bought a pumpkin pie and a German chocolate pie, which we already finished, saving the pumpkin pie for tomorrow. Also bought bacon that turned out to be side pork. While none of us knew the difference, we did not like it and threw it out. Just as well though as it was stuffed full of OD’s. Most of our other shopping was okay, fruit, vegetables and meat. Did go a little heavy on the breads.

Here it is the day before Thanksgiving and while it is damp and foggy at home it is warm and beautiful at the coast. We set here in our condo and look out upon the vast sea. The water is so clean that you can see deep into it. Right outside our window we see what appears to be thousands of sea otters. Checking this out a little further it turned out to be kelp with some seals swimming around in it. I had been trying to decide for 2 days if they were sea otters or seals. When the waves break you appear to see the entire body and they look pretty big. Perhaps they are sea lions but I don’t see any of them on the rocks, oh well maybe its kelp!

A little further out we see an occasional whale swim by. Once in a while you will see a big tail come out of the water as it dives deeper into the sea. At other times all you see is a spout of water.

It is unusual for me to go away on a vacation where I am not working. This is one of those few times that I will not be able to write it off my taxes, “oh well”!

Our daughter is in the kitchen and just said we should have purchased a sponge while we were out “oh well”! She is doing the dishes and getting ready to prepare Thanksgiving dinner. We bought enough food for 10 and there are just the 3 of us.

Lynda is in the living room eating pie and Fritos and drinking a diet soft drink. She keeps saying that she has to get her blood sugar down as she is having cataract surgery in a couple of weeks.

I am sitting at the computer but nothing worthwhile seems to be coming out. I guess I will walk down to the clubhouse and see what is going on.

This shop stays busy with university students and the general populace alike. Some days you are lucky to find a place to sit down and eat. A few times a year I will stop in and partake of these tasty and filling bean bundles. Here even a person watching their weight can enjoy a hardy burrito without feeling guilty. This shop makes healthy food using ingredients such as beans that are boiled and mashed instead of fried. You have a choice between flour and whole-wheat tortillas. My favorite burrito is called “The Original” on the whole-wheat tortilla which is made with pinto beans, rice, lettuce, cheese, a bit of sour cream and avocado. One busy evening in January 2001 we stopped in for dinner and a booth finally became available. My wife scooted in and I set down but my belly was too big to fit in behind the table. About that time a single table that had two attached swinging chairs became available. We quickly moved over, when sitting down I noticed that the belly room was tight but at least I could squeeze in. We enjoyed our burritos and when I stood up to leave I noticed that the table was moving up with me. I went in for a burrito and left feeling like I was wearing a table and two swinging chairs. Just another day in the life of a fat person.
