Some of us have had weight loss surgery to control our weight. Others have lost and control their weight through traditional diets. Regardless of how we lose and control our weight we still have families and children that prefer to eat other foods. In these hard times when food prices continue to rise there are still a number of bargains to be had. Here is a place you may want to check out. Notice the sign states, “Kids with gas eat free.” Why not serve those kids a breakfast and lunch of beans and then take them out to dinner!

Our world is changing and in this computer age there is more information on us than any of us likes. On Halloween we see it all. Now if you are looking for a special costume? How about going as a pumkin? Here is an idea you might not want to try! Let me warn you that when you see the following picture the person is certainly showing a lot. But hey, at least they were in good spirits and found good use for an obese butt or perhaps they hit the spirits before bearing in all.

Important Fart Warning!!

Following gastric bypass surgery it is quite common for people to experience a lot of gas and farting. Luckily that has not happened to me – knock on wood. Now from what I am told this is not just ordinary gas and it can have a pretty strong stench. Oh lord, my dogs farts smell bad enough so hope it doesn’t happen. For all of you including those that have never had weight loss surgery read this warning about farting.

Please pass this on to the people you care about, relatives and friends just in case…………It is important they be aware of this danger .

The Gift of Old Age

I received the following email and while parts of it I may not agree with, it was packed full of som many truths about aging that I had to share it.

I am now, probably for the first time in my life, the person I have always wanted to be. Oh, not my body! I sometime despair over my body, the wrinkles, the baggy eyes, and the sagging belly! And often I am taken aback by that old person that lives in my mirror (who looks like my FATHER!), but I don’t agonize over those things for long.

I would never trade my amazing friends, my wonderful life, my loving family for less gray hair or a flatter belly. As I’ve aged, I’ve become more kind to myself, and less critical of myself. I’ve become my own friend.

I don’t chide myself for eating that extra cookie, or for not making my bed, or for buying that silly extra fishing rod that I didn’t need, but looks so avante garde on my porch. I am entitled to a treat, to be messy, to be extravagant.

I have seen too many dear friends leave this world too soon; before they understood the great freedom that comes with aging.

Whose business is it if I choose to read or play on the computer until 4 AM and sleep until noon?

I will dance with myself to those wonderful tunes of the 60&70’s, and if I, at the same time, wish to weep over a lost love .. I will.

I will walk the beach in a swim suit that is stretched over a bulging body, and will dive into the waves with abandon if I choose to, despite the pitying glances from the jet set .

They, too, will get old.

I know I am sometimes forgetful. But there again, some of life is just as well forgotten. And I eventually remember the important things.

Sure, over the years my heart has been broken. How can your heart not break when you lose a loved one, or when a child suffers, or even when somebody’s beloved pet gets hit by a car? But broken hearts are what give us strength and understanding and compassion. A heart never broken is pristine and sterile and will never know the joy of being imperfect.

I am so blessed to have lived long enough to have my hair turning gray, and to have my youthful laughs be forever etched into deep grooves on my face. So many have never laughed, and so many have died before their hair could turn silver

As you get older, it is easier to be positive. You care less about what other people think. I don’t question myself anymore. I’ve even earned the right to be wrong.

So, to answer your question, I like being old. It has set me free. I like the person I have become. I am not going to live forever, but while I am still here, I will not waste time lamenting what could have been, or worrying about what will be. And I shall eat dessert every single day. (If I feel like it)

Adult Obesity Rates up in 37 States

A new study by F as in Fat: How Obesity Policies are Failing in America, 2008 report from the Trust for America’s Health and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation are disturbing but do not come as much of a surprise. The study reports that for the second consecutive year in 24 states and a third year in 19 other states obesity continues to climb at a dramatic rate. More that 25 percent of adults are obese in 28 states an increase from 19 states only one year ago. Not a single state experienced a decrease.

With the exception of Colorado, which experienced a modest 1% increase twenty percent of all Americans are now obese in every state. Thirty-seven states increased their obesity level last year with Delaware showing the fastest gain. Unfortunately the extra pounds are taking a toll on our health. The study reported that Type II diabetes rates rose in 26 states.

Oregon the state where I reside came in 29th. Twenty five percent of adult Oregonians are obese and 60 percent are either overweight or obese. The diet and exercise industry should be very busy based on this report.

While about 23 million children are either overweight or obese this years report did not include new state level data for children.

This methodology, recommended by the CDC, compensates for any potential anomalies or usual changes due to the specific sample in any given year in any given state. States with statistically significant (p<0.05) increases for one year are noted with an asterisk (*), states with statistically significant increases for two years in a row are noted with two asterisks (**), states with statistically significant increases for three years in a row are noted with three asterisks (***). Additional information about methodologies and confidence intervals are available in the report. Individuals with a body mass index (BMI) (a calculation based on weight and height ratios) of 30 or higher are considered obese.

Carnation Milk

Carnation milk – 65 YEARS AGO … This is priceless!
A little old lady from Wisconsin had worked in and around her
family dairy farms since she was old enough to walk, with hours of
hard work and little compensation.

When canned Carnation Milk became available in grocery stores in
approximately the 1940’s, she read an advertisement offering $5,000
for the best slogan. The producers wanted a rhyme beginning with
‘Carnation Milk is best of all.’

She thought to herself, I know all about milk and dairy farms. I
can do this!

She sent in her entry, and several weeks later, a black limo pulled
up in front of her house. A man got out and said, ‘Carnation
LOVED your entry so much, we are here to award you $2,000 even
though we will not be able to use it!’
