I am not a video game player or am I? A week ago my son, grandson and I all each emptied our coin jars added the contents of our cuss jar and used our coins to purchase a Nintendo WII Sports. No doubt it was the cuss jar that put us over the top. This early Christmas present has turned out to be a great buy. With games such as bowling, golf, tennis, baseball and boxing we have already enjoyed hours of family fun. To top it off it is amazing the added exercise we are getting. The WII will not only help you loose weight but also provide family activity.
Another fun thing is that each person can make his or her own MII. The MII is your character that you see on the television screen. I made mine as a nice thin guy with the great looking red hair I use to have. My grandson made his MII as the little blond kid he is. My son made his MII as a cocky looking gray haired person. Now if you are wondering about the women our house is a bachelor pad. I guess we need to get out there and bring some women into our lives. Read more
Those of us that wish to loose or control our weight need to have exercise as part of our plan. In developing and exercise plan there are three basics that you need to keep in mind.

- Strength Training: Preferably include strength training every other day and no less than twice a week. Read more
For me motivation or the lack of motivation has always played and important roll in exercise. Yes I recognize its importance and even enjoy exercise while doing it. As a young Marine my superiors were on my ass if I did not exercise. As a result my 6 years of active and reserve training resulted in me maintaining a normal weight for the longest period in my life. As an adult I was once fortunate enough to be able to hire a personal trainer that kept me motivated. Unfortunately when I experienced a financial set back I was no longer able to enjoy that privilege.Today more than ever I understand the benefits and recognize the need for routine exercise. Still, I find myself spending too much time at the computer and not enough time enjoying the benefits and pleasure of exercise and our wonderful Oregon outdoors.
I have a 9-year-old grandson that lives with me. This grandson is an exercise fanatic and has been that way since he was young and watched his grandpa working out with weights. Unfortunately grandpa went through an extended period of time where he stopped working with weights. Fortunately my grandson continued. While Seth may only be nine years old I have hired him as my personal trainer. $5.00 per week and he works diligently each evening to whip grandpa back into shape. He may not be a Marine Drill Sergeant but some nights he sure gives it a try. That little push keeps grandpa motivated and those few dollars per week get him closer to that Nintendo WII he is saving for.
On a hot day we may feel like we’re melting, but did you know that our internal temperature (or core temperature) only changes by a few degrees. Our normal body temperature at rest is maintained between 36 and 38 degrees Celsius. Our core temperature is extremely important as the processes that occur in our cells need it to be very constant in order to keep the body alive. In fact, you will require medical intervention if it drops below 34.4 degrees, or above 41 degrees. Read more
Many people do not understand the principle of natural weight loss with eating only the amount they need for the amount of physical activity they perform. Unfortunately, the number of overweight American citizens is on the increase. Once you are overweight, you usually want to trim down for a whole lot of reasons, some related to health, others having to do with looks. Research shows that wearing a pedometer each day really helps people to get more exercise and therefore either maintain or lose weight. Read more
There’s no real secret to losing weight other than eat less and exercise more. I can almost hear a lot of your say; “But I have no time to exercise!” This isn’t entirely accurate because there are lots of exercising opportunities if you only think outside the box. Read more
The problem of obesity has been with us since the dawn of time and for many sufferers obesity is caused by genetic or medical problems. In today’s world, however, the alarming growth in the rate of obesity is very much a man-made problem, aided in part perhaps by the availability, and popularity, of the gastric bypass.
